I received a card from
Wayne Womersley thanking me for mentioning his dad
Robert in the current Laurel and Hardy
News.
Wayne writes, "It is with
great sadness that I write to tell you that he was
readmitted to hospital and passed away on 29th
December. I cannot put into words the pain and
sadness Mum and I are feeling at the moment. I just
thought you would like to know he took great
pleasure in receiving your Laurel and Hardy News
and always passed it on to me to look at too!
Will you all please raise your glasses and give
your best wishes to very great man, Mr Robert
Womersley - my dad!"
We all share a big loss
here. I could always tell by the writing on the
envelope when I received a letter from Robert just
what was inside. It was always a cluster of
hand-written jokes and this was always fun to
receive. Robert used the pen name Bobby Pyrah and
as such his name became familiar to Sons
worldwide.
His activities with the
County Hospital Tent of Bradford were also humorous
and I had the pleasure of meeting him at a Laurel
and HarDay in Wigan.
Cheerio, Robert. And
thanks for the laughs.
