All Sons know of the
wonderful Laurel
and Hardy Museum
of Harlem, Georgia. Many of us have had the
pleasure of visiting there. Since its opening in
2002, when it had a limited amount of Laurel and
Hardy collectibles for display, its inventory has
grown tremendously and that is great
news. There have been many people who have
donated these items - the museum is non-profit and
does not buy collectibles, it just accepts donated
items. The museum is starting to fill up to
the point that the folks who are in charge have
started an official effort to raise funds to expand
the museum. There is sufficient space that
surrounds the exterior of the museum that would
allow it to construct new space. The museum
folks are doing what they can locally to raise
funds, but they need as much financial help as
possible from friends like the Sons of the
Desert.
The Sons of the Desert
have a wonderful history of raising funds to help
in things of interest to the Laurel and Hardy
community. The Harlem museum could use our
support. They have set up a way for Sons and
other patrons to contribute. You can send a
check or money order, made out to Museum Building
Fund, to Museum Building Fund, PO Box 99, Harlem,
GA 30814, USA. If you have any questions, you
can contact them by phone at 706-556-0401. Please
pass this message along to all Sons. It would
be great if tents would do raffles, pass-the-hat,
or whatever, to get funds that they can send and
I'm sure that any amount would be
appreciated. Any Son who has ever visited
the museum knows they are welcomed warmly and
enthusiastically - the volunteers who run
the museum belong to the local Berth Marks Tent.
The museum is a tribute to our organization and to
all who love Stan and Babe.
For many Sons and
tents, sending money by PayPal would be
much more efficient. The museum is not
set up to accept such payments at this
time. But you can send the PayPal donation to
me at my PayPal name StanLaurel@verizon.net, and
I will get the payment to the museum and
they will send you a receipt.
Thanks.
