Cuckoo and others

Be aware that Santa Claus really does exist! Go to www.Veehd.com. If you have never been there before, then you are going to find your world will change in a most profound way from this day onward.

Type in "Laurel and Hardy Cuckoo" for the BBC's Omnibus programme.

Paul Aungiers

  • Paul points out that most of the Laurel and Hardy films are on the site.

Singularity question

In the latest issue of The Perry Winkle magazine, Dave Wyatt ponders the name of the film we know as Call of the Cuckoos. Dave observes that that is the name given in most (but not all) Laurel and Hardy books, whereas the title given on the Universal DVD is Call of the Cuckoo.

Makin' Whoopee

To celebrate fifteen years of our tent this year, we have uploaded and made available from the lulu.com website several of our early Makin' Whoopee newsletters, priced at 99p per download.

We have also made the first eight issues (plus a Sons Special), into an A5 sized booklet, which is just £3.29 plus postage. You can get it direct by clicking here.

We will have some of these for sale at various events this year, as well as a CD of various other items from our past issues.

Brats Tent's charity

Last year via the Soak a Sheik event and also a raffle held at the Christmas meal we managed to raise a total of £100 to be donated to a charity. At the December meeting we chose to make our donation to Amy's House, a charity based at Ballifield Primary School in Handsworth.

Of value

Peter Andrews spotted a full-page advert in the Bristol Evening Post, for an event at which experts inspected and valued autographs in Bristol on 14th January. How fitting it was that Laurel and Hardy were given prominence.

New tent in the Netherlands

A charter for a new tent has been granted to the Fra Diavolo Tent (Oasis #302) in the beautiful Dutch town of Delft. The Grand Sheik is our old friend Sjaak Bolder. Sjaak says, "We will start as a small local tent, with meetings in Delft, in a small old theatre. We will prepare a first info meeting, and probably start a website. Fun is the most important reason, and to keep the good work of the Boys alive. When there is a place, I would also like to start a small museum in Delft, but this is a dream. Hopefully it will be possible in the future."

For further information contact Sjaak Bolder, De Kruin 5, 2661 DJ, Bergschenhoek, Netherlands. Email fradiavolo@ipact.nl.
